Neuschwanstein: A Real-Life Fairy Tale Castle

King Ludwig II of Bavaria (being a lover of folk tales, the middle ages, and Richard Wagner’s famous opera Tristan und Isolde) designed this castle in attempts to realize his theatrical fantasies. Unfortunately the castle was never completed and to this day much of the structure remains unfinished (the cost to complete it was estimated to be quite exorbitant). Only a few days after Ludwig’s death, the castle was opened to the public as a museum.

The first two pictures are what Neuschwanstein looks like today, and the last picture is a project painting of what Ludwig II originally intended Neuschwanstein to look like upon completion.
